Slit Felt (also called Slitting Line Felt, Felt Pad, Felt Strip) is a soft, wear-resistant industrial felt used in the slitting section of ERW tube mills to protect steel strip surfaces and stabilize strip movement during high-speed processing.

In ERW tube mill production, the steel coil must go through Uncoiler → Slitting Line → Accumulator → Forming → Welding. During the slitting stage, slit felt plays a critical role in ensuring the strip surface is clean, scratch-free, and well-controlled before entering the welding line.

Slit felt is widely used for mild steel, galvanized steel, cold-rolled steel, stainless steel and pre-coated steel.

Main Applications in ERW Tube Mill Slitting Line

Slit felt is installed on several key positions of the slitting line:

✔ 1. Tension Stand (Tension Pad)

Provides stable friction and keeps the strip tension uniform.

✔ 2. Separator Arms / Overarm Separator

Prevents strip edges from scratching and keeps each strip separated smoothly.

✔ 3. Recoiler Entry Pad

Protects the steel surface before rewinding, avoiding impression marks.

✔ 4. Guide Plates / Support Bars

Used wherever the strip touches a support surface to avoid metal-to-metal contact.

✔ 5. Oil Absorption & Dust Removal

Helps remove residual oil from the strip surface and improves coil cleanliness before tube forming.

Why Slit Felt Is Important for ERW Tube Mills

In an ERW tube mill, the slitted strips will directly enter the accumulator, then into the forming and welding section. Any scratch, oil stain, or burr mark on the strip will affect:
