Induction heating is a non-contact process that uses electromagnetic fields to heat electrically conductive materials. It generates heat directly within the workpiece by inducing eddy currents.
How does induction heating work?
A high-frequency alternating current passes through a copper coil, producing a magnetic field. When a conductive metal is placed inside this field, eddy currents form and resistive heating occurs inside the metal.
What materials can be heated by induction?
Mostly metals—such as steel, stainless steel, copper, aluminum, brass, and titanium. Non-conductive materials like ceramics or plastics cannot be directly heated but may be indirectly affected.
Is induction heating energy efficient?
Yes. It has up to 90% energy efficiency, significantly reducing energy waste compared to traditional methods like gas furnaces or resistance heating.
What cooling system is required?
Most machines require closed-loop water cooling or chillers to cool induction coils, power electronics, and transformers.
