In an ERW tube mill, continuous production is essential for stable welding quality and high productivity. During coil changing and strip end welding, the forming section cannot stop immediately. This is where an accumulator plays a critical role.
An accumulator temporarily stores steel strip, allowing the tube mill to continue running while a new coil is prepared and welded. Without an accumulator, every coil change would require stopping the entire production line, reducing efficiency and increasing production costs.

An accumulator is a strip storage device installed between the shear & welder and the forming section of an ERW tube mill.
Its main functions include:

Simply put, the accumulator acts as a buffer between the entry section and the tube forming section.
The strip enters the accumulator through guide rolls and is stored in multiple horizontal spiral loops. During coil changing and strip end welding, the stored strip is continuously released to keep the tube mill running without interruption.
