What Is Cored Wire?

Cored wire is a special tubular wire made from low-carbon steel strip, filled with precisely formulated metallurgical powders. During steelmaking and secondary refining, the steel sheath melts in molten steel, releasing the internal powder to perform metallurgical reactions such as desulfurization, deoxidation, alloying, and inclusion modification.

Compared with direct powder addition, cored wire injection provides higher recovery rate, better reaction control, and improved steel cleanliness.
Our cored wire production line is a special-purpose ERW tube forming system designed for stable forming, accurate powder filling, and reliable tube sealing.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is cored wire a spare part of an ERW tube mill?

No. Cored wire is a metallurgical consumable product, produced by a dedicated cored wire production line, not by a standard ERW tube mill.

What is the difference between a standard tube mill and a cored wire production line?

A cored wire line includes integrated powder filling and tube sealing systems, which are not available on standard tube mills.

What types of powders can be used?

Calcium, CaSi, aluminum, titanium, carbon, flux, and compound alloy powders.

How is powder filling accuracy controlled?

By automatic powder dosing and closed-loop control systems.

What wire diameters can be produced?

Typically Φ9 to Φ20 mm. Other sizes can be customized.
