What Is a Quick Change System?

A Quick Change System is an auxiliary device installed on an ERW tube mill that allows the forming and sizing roll stands to be exchanged quickly.

Unlike a standard tube mill, where rolls are changed one stand at a time, the quick change system enables an entire pre-adjusted roll unit to be removed and replaced in a much shorter time.

It is not a separate machine, but an optional upgrade designed to improve the efficiency of roll changing.

How Does the Quick Change System Work?

During production, another set of roll stands can be prepared offline.

When production changes to another pipe size:

  1. Stop the tube mill.
  2. Release the shaft locking mechanism (usually hydraulic).
  3. Move the existing roll stand assembly out of the mill.
  4. Move the pre-assembled roll stand into position.
  5. Lock the shafts and reconnect the necessary components.
  6. Perform a simple inspection before restarting production.

Because the replacement tooling has already been assembled and adjusted, production can resume much faster than with conventional roll changing.
